Steps are great. I love steps.
Your body loves steps.
And it is motivating to watch that number trend up on your Apple watch.
(Which is exactly why I created the Step It Up 10K Challenge!)
But if you’re a busy professional juggling work, family, and trying to take care of yourself...
You know it takes a little more than that to hit your goals…
Especially when your time is limited and your energy’s pulled in a million directions.
So, while we are crushing the Step It Up 10K Challenge (which is going great, by the way!), I want you to zoom out:
Let’s talk about the steps your watch doesn’t track. Things like:
1. Nutrition Steps:
Having eggs instead of that muffin for breakfast
Swapping that afternoon soda for sparkling water
Blocking off an hour to meal prep on Sunday
2. Mindset Steps:
Saying no more often
Paying attention to your negative self-talk
Journaling to clarify your thoughts
3. Lifestyle Steps:
Getting to bed 30 minutes earlier
Taking 5 minutes to breathe before your day starts
Going outside for at least 10 minutes every day
Just like walking, these steps stack up.
So yes, keep counting your steps!
But also ask: What other kind of “step” can I take today?
→ Pick one other step to make non-negotiable this week.
→ Write it down. Stick with it.
→ Notice how it shifts your energy, focus, or stress level.
Here’s mine:
No screens after 9 PM… my brain needs the break.
