Looking for a healthy holiday side dish?
With the holiday season in full swing, I thought I’d share a healthier twist on a classic side dish that’s perfect for holiday dinners or parties:
Mashed Sweet Potatoes.
Not only are sweet potatoes delicious, but they also have a lower glycemic index than regular potatoes—meaning they give you steady energy without spiking your blood sugar.
Even better?
They’re loaded with fiber, vitamin A, and potassium, which support digestion, immunity, and heart health.
So if you’re looking for a side dish that feels a little lighter (and won’t leave you sluggish), this one’s for you!
Here’s your recipe:
Perfect Mashed Sweet Potatoes (Serves 6)
(Calories per serving: 152; Fat: 3 grams; Carbohydrates: 31 grams; Fiber: 5 grams; Protein: 2 grams)
Ingredients:
2 lbs (910 grams) sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 2-inch pieces
1 Tbsp grass-fed butter or coconut oil
¼ to ⅓ cup (60 ml-80 ml) of your favorite unsweetened milk
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground ginger
Pinch of nutmeg
How to make it:
Place the sweet potatoes in a large pot and add just enough cold water to cover them.
Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.
Add the remaining ingredients, starting with ¼ cup of milk and adding more if needed. Mash until smooth and well combined. Serve immediately!
Give it a try and let me know what you think!
